Here at hungten biltong only use the best quality Scottish Assured Beef. The beef we use has been sourced for the top-quality cattle from a small selection of trusted farms in the Scottish Lowlands and Borders, supplying tender succulent beef with intense flavour of being traditionally matured. The animals have had the best quality of life possible.

All farms are regularly inspected through their farm assurance (QMS) to guarantee high standards are maintained. Ensuring that we have traceability from farm to final product.

Building a business with strong foundations, we are a team of skilled passionate people that share our love of biltong and rugby. Our recipe’s have been handed down form generation to generation. We can even date it back to the Voortrekkers who used it dry their beef under their wagons out of necessity to keep a supply of meat, that would keep for extended periods of time. To be eaten and used in their cooking during their long trek from Cape Town on their eastward migration.

We try and test our Biltong ourselves and believe we are our harshest critics. We might not be able to pass on prices you find at your butcher but we believe we have an authentic product with no filler to guarantee quality products.

Making the biltong to our fourth generation recipe handed to us by Ouma, (Gran). Ouma's father and grandfather farmed dairy cattle in West Krugersdorp. They only farm a few cattle now and most of the land has been turned into a housing development. But Oupa's Britz, the recipe remains the same! You can almost say it's like comparing the different biltong tastes as a surname. Easily recognizable to the different families.

Making Biltong with only the best 100% Scottish beef gives the meat a more robust flavour and intense taste. We carefully cut the beef into strips. Cure it with Aspall Cider Vinegar, rubbed with Pink Himalayan Rock Salt it's then rubbed with the families secret spices and Hung to dry in airing chambers for 5 days to bring you a delicious natural beef snack.

We use pink Himalayan rock salt in our process it has 84 essential minerals which are a great source of magnesium that helps regulate blood sugar levels and free from pollutants of tainted waters. Apple cider vinegar for its increased absorption of nutrients and improves gut biome, keeping you fuller for longer effect.
